Big Bags for Food and Feed
Food places different demands from construction waste. Our standard range is designed for disposal and remediation and is not designated as food packaging. For raw materials, ingredients and intermediate products we develop a specification with you and clarify the evidence before an item goes into use.

Requirements we define before use
These points decide whether and how a big bag comes into question for your material. We collect them in conversation and record them in the specification.
Material conformity
For plastics in contact with food, Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 applies and, for plastics, Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. The fabric itself is usually not the contact layer: an inner liner takes on that role.
Manufacture and hygiene
Good manufacturing practice for materials in contact with food (Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006): production environment, packaging of the bags, storage.
Tightness and protection
Sift-proofness of the seams, protection against moisture, odour and pests, barrier liner if required.
Labelling and traceability
Label with batch, item number, barcode; special print with company logo.
Filling and emptying
Dimensions of inlet and outlet, spouts, filling station, emptying behaviour.

What we need from you for a specification
A big bag for food is not a standard item but the result of a specification. The more precise your details, the faster we can determine whether and how the construction basis can be adapted. Typical details are:
- Material: type, grain size, bulk density, moisture, flow behaviour.
- Filling: plant, spout dimensions, filling temperature, filling rate.
- Emptying: silo, hopper or mixer, outlet size.
- Requirements: evidence from your quality assurance, customer specifications, labelling with batch or barcode.
- Quantity and call-off: annual requirement, pallet pattern, stockholding.
Legal framework for food contact
Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 applies to materials and articles in contact with food. For plastics, Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 is added, and for manufacturing practice Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006. With a big bag made of polypropylene fabric, the fabric is usually not the contact layer; an inner liner takes on that role. Which evidence is needed in the individual case depends on the material, contact time, temperature and your customer requirements. We clarify that with you in the project, not afterwards.
Construction basis from the range
BBS004 and BBS005 serve as the starting point: special big bags with swan-neck inlet, BBS004 also with outlet, both with 1,250 kg load capacity and safety factor 5:1 according to the data sheet. In addition there are BB90 as a coated big bag and PPFB70PE as a flat bag with PE liner. These items are not an approved food solution. They show the constructions on which a specification is built.
What expressly does not apply
- The items of the standard range are not designated as food packaging.
- There is no UN approval; a food reference does not replace it.
- Until a specification has been approved, the rule is: do not fill food into items of the standard range.
How to get to the specification
Describe your material and your plant in the Bag Configurator. This produces a specification laid out like our order specification sheets, which you send with the enquiry. We then clarify feasibility, minimum quantities and test certificates with the manufacturer. Until then it is clear what is documented and what still has to be proven.
Frequently asked questions
Is a big bag with PE liner enough for food?
A liner alone does not make a bag food packaging. The fabric is usually not the contact layer; the liner takes on that role, and the regulations mentioned apply to it and to its manufacture. Which evidence is needed we clarify in the project.
Are there declarations of conformity for food contact?
Not for the standard range: the items are not designated as food packaging; the declarations of conformity on the website relate to EN ISO 21898. Evidence for food contact is produced with an approved specification.
What should my enquiry contain?
Material with bulk density and moisture, filling line with spout dimensions, emptying, your quality requirements and evidence, annual requirement and desired pallet pattern.
