Which packaging for which asbestos waste?
TRGS 519 requires asbestos-containing waste to be collected, stored and disposed of in suitable, securely closable and labelled containers without endangering people or the environment. Crushing asbestos-containing waste is not permitted (no. 18, version of 28 February 2025). Which container is suitable depends on the type of waste. Depending on the waste, no. 18.1 (2) names, for example, plastic sacks, big bags, sheet big bags or, for waste containing sprayed asbestos, the disposal equipment itself.
| Type of waste under TRGS 519 | Suitable containers (excerpt) | Matching items from us |
|---|---|---|
| granular, woven or lumpy waste | sufficiently strong plastic sacks | PP flat bags (70 × 110 to 80 × 130 cm) |
| coarse or sheet-form asbestos cement waste | Big Bags | Big bags with asbestos warning print (90 × 90 × 110 and 135 × 135 × 130 cm) |
| stackable asbestos cement products | Big bags, sheet big bags, stacking on pallets in dust-tight packaging | Sheet bags (260 or 320 cm long) |
| waste containing sprayed asbestos | the disposal equipment itself, a drum for small quantities | not in our range |
Clarify in advance which packaging your waste disposal company or acceptance point actually requires. This is not a formality, as the examples further down show.
The items with asbestos warning print at a glance
All 18 items carry the asbestos warning print from the factory. Dimensions, load capacity and pieces per pallet come from the data sheets. Where a value there is unclear, it says "on request". Each item number leads to the product page with data sheet, dimension drawing and printing.
Big bags for fragments and coarse waste
For coarse asbestos cement waste, TRGS 519 no. 18.1 (2) names big bags. The standard size 90 × 90 × 110 cm is available in three versions: coated with skirt (BBA90), coated with 1,250 kg load capacity (BBA901) and uncoated with PE liner (BBA90PE). In addition there is a large version, 135 × 135 × 130 cm (BBA135). All have four lifting loops and a closed bottom.
| Item no. | External dimensions | Load capacity | Version | PU per pallet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BBA90 | 90 × 90 × 110 cm | 1,000 kg | coated, with skirt | 350 |
| BBA90PE | 90 × 90 × 110 cm | 1,000 kg | uncoated, with skirt, PE liner, 50 µm | 275 |
| BBA901 | 90 × 90 × 110 cm | 1,250 kg | coated, with skirt | 330 |
| BBA135 | 135 × 135 × 130 cm | 1,000 kg | coated, with skirt | 200 |
Sheet bags for corrugated sheets and stackable asbestos cement products
For sheets and other stackable asbestos cement products, no. 18.1 (2) names big bags and sheet big bags, stacked on pallets in dust-tight packaging. Sheet bags are 260 or 320 cm long and 125 cm wide, with a height of 30 or 45 cm. Four lifting loops on two circumferential straps spread the load; the load capacity is 1,500 kg.
| Item no. | External dimensions | Load capacity | Version | PU per pallet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BBA260 | 260 × 125 × 30 cm | 1,500 kg | coated | 280 |
| BBA261 | 260 × 125 × 45 cm | 1,500 kg | coated | 280 |
| BBA320 | 320 × 125 × 30 cm | 1,500 kg | coated | 240 |
| BBA321 | 320 × 125 × 45 cm | 1,500 kg | coated | 240 |
Container bags for large quantities in roll-off containers
Container bags line roll-off containers from 620 to 750 cm in length and are closed with the lid. The data sheets give no load capacity for them; the load results from container size and filling material. The asbestos warning print appears here in seven languages. Whether your acceptance point permits container big bags, clarify before ordering: a leaflet from Schweinfurt expressly excludes them (see below).
| Item no. | External dimensions | Load capacity | Version | PU per pallet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BBA620 | 620 × 240 × 115 cm | on request | coated, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 50 |
| BBA620PE | 620 × 240 × 115 cm | on request | uncoated, PE liner, 50 µm, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 35 |
| BBA650 | 650 × 240 × 115 cm | on request | coated, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 50 |
| BBA651 | 650 × 240 × 240 cm | on request | coated, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 50 |
| BBA700 | 700 × 240 × 240 cm | on request | coated, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 35 |
| BBA750 | 750 × 240 × 240 cm | on request | coated, asbestos warning print in 7 languages | 32 |
PP flat bags for small quantities by hand
For granular, woven or lumpy waste, no. 18.1 (2) names sufficiently strong plastic sacks. The asbestos flat bags are available in 70 × 110, 80 × 120 and 80 × 130 cm, coated or uncoated with PE liner, with closing strap. They suit quantities that are filled by hand.
| Item no. | External dimensions | Load capacity | Version | PU per pallet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PPFBA70 | 70 × 110 cm | on request | uncoated, PE liner | 3.200 |
| PPFBA70L | 70 × 110 cm | on request | coated | 4.000 |

Labelling and warning print
Containers with asbestos-containing waste must be fitted with the hazard symbol under Annex 2b of TRGS 519 before their first filling. The labelling of asbestos-containing waste also follows TRGS 201 and the REACH Regulation, Annex XVII, Appendix 7 (TRGS 519 no. 18.1 (4) and (5)).
Our asbestos items carry a warning print from the factory: the large warning symbol "a" with German text and six further language fields (German, English, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese), printed in Pantone 485 C red and black. The print is meant to warn everyone who picks up the bag in their own language. Whether it meets the binding labelling requirements for your disposal route is decided by the regulations cited and your waste disposal company, not by this page. Languages, wording and print template are described in detail in the section Warning prints from the factory.
Filling, closing, providing
Four points for practice can be taken from TRGS 519 no. 18:
- Prevent dust. No dust may be released when picking up and providing waste, for example by extraction, consolidation, dampening or covering (no. 18.1 (3)).
- Keep separate. Asbestos-containing waste must be kept separate from asbestos-free waste (no. 18.1 (1)).
- Secure transport. No fibres may be released during transport; the load must be secured accordingly (no. 18.2).
- Preserve the containers. The containers must not be destroyed when deposited in approved facilities (no. 18.4).
Technically, the bags offer the following: skirt or lid for closing (big bags and sheet bags with skirt, container bags with lid, flat bags with closing strap), coated fabric and four lifting loops, all four of which you always attach. Do not fill beyond the load capacity and do not pierce the bag with a fork: the notes on safe handling are in the article Handling and storage; calculate the fill height in the Fill Limit Calculator.
Acceptance conditions: clarify the packaging with the waste disposal company in advance
The requirements of acceptance points differ locally. Two examples from public leaflets, with the date of the respective document:
| Acceptance point | Packaging | Quantity and weight | Further conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stade district Leaflet, as of 1/2025, waste code 17 06 05* | Big bags made of plastic fabric with warning label “A”, closed with tear-resistant adhesive tape where necessary; small components dust-tight in tear-resistant film | Small quantities up to 1,500 kg in 2 big bags, no more than 750 kg per big bag, with prior registration; above 2 t per year, registration with NGS | Overfilled or too heavy big bags are not accepted |
| Schweinfurt district Customer information of 20 July 2023 | Big bags with asbestos warning label in accordance with the accident prevention regulation, no container big bags, closed dust-tight, filled only up to the filling edge, lifting loops freely accessible | At least 200 kg per delivery; commercial customers must first obtain a disposal certificate with accompanying document | Acceptance only on certain weekdays; the authority itself issues big bags, including sheet sacks of 3.20 × 1.25 × 0.30 m and 2.60 × 1.25 × 0.30 m |
What follows from this: A big bag with 1,000 kg load capacity does not suit every acceptance point, container big bags are not permitted everywhere, and commercial deliverers sometimes need a disposal certificate. Before ordering, therefore, clarify with your waste disposal company or the acceptance point: which type of packaging is accepted? Which maximum weight per bag applies? Which labelling is required? Conditions change; the current information from the acceptance point is always authoritative. The examples are not a complete overview.
Transport and dangerous-goods law
Our items are not designated as UN packaging for dangerous goods. Whether and how asbestos waste is to be transported under ADR and GGVSEB depends on the waste, the packaging and the ADR edition in force. Your waste disposal company or your dangerous-goods safety adviser checks this. We give no assurance that the data sheet does not support.
Quantities and printing
We deliver by the pallet. One pallet holds, for example, 350 big bags BBA90 (90 × 90 × 110 cm), 280 sheet bags BBA260 (260 × 125 × 30 cm), 50 container bags BBA620 or 3,200 flat bags PPFBA70. If you want to add your own marking, you can have a company logo or text printed on the free area from 5 pallets per order and motif. The asbestos warning print remains visible and unchanged. The article Asbestos and mineral wool: packaging and labelling and the industry page Demolition and hazardous-substance remediation provide helpful background.
Frequently asked questions about asbestos big bags
What is an asbestos big bag?
A big bag made of polypropylene fabric with four lifting loops that carries the asbestos warning print from the factory. It is used to collect, provide and transport asbestos waste. “Asbestos big bag” describes the version, not an approval: which packaging applies to your waste and your acceptance point is determined by TRGS 519, waste law and your waste disposal company.
Which size suits my waste?
Fragments and coarse asbestos cement waste go in big bags (90 × 90 × 110 or 135 × 135 × 130 cm), sheets in sheet bags (260 or 320 cm long), large quantities in roll-off containers in container bags, small quantities by hand into flat bags. The tables above give dimensions, load capacity and pieces per pallet. Not sure? The Big Bag Finder leads you to the item in three questions.
How much may I fill into an asbestos big bag?
The load capacity (for big bags 1,000 to 1,250 kg, for sheet bags 1,500 kg) is the permitted maximum load, not a filling target. Acceptance points often set their own limits: the Stade district states a maximum of 750 kg per big bag, Schweinfurt requires filling only up to the filling edge. Calculate the fill height for your material in the Fill Limit Calculator and observe the requirement of your acceptance point.
Are the asbestos big bags approved for dangerous goods?
No, the items are not designated as UN packaging. The transport-law classification (ADR, GGVSEB) is checked by your waste disposal company or your dangerous-goods safety adviser. We make no statement that a data sheet does not support.
Can I buy asbestos big bags, including small quantities?
We deliver by the pallet. How many pieces a pallet holds is shown in the tables above (for example 350 pieces of BBA90 per pallet). For enquiries, use the enquiry form or save items with the heart. We state prices in the quotation.
Can I combine the warning print with my logo?
Yes, from 5 pallets per order and motif. The asbestos warning print remains visible as a marking and is not covered or altered; your logo goes on the free area. In the printing advisor you can see the motif on the bag.
How do I dispose of empty bags?
How empty bags are to be treated is determined by your waste disposal company. Ask them before disposal.
