Sheet bag or big bag: the difference is the length

The largest standard big bag in our range is 135 cm long. Anything longer fits only diagonally or not at all: corrugated sheets, facade panels, profiles, long insulation boards. For these components there is the sheet bag. It is 260 or 320 cm long, 125 cm wide and, at 30 or 45 cm height, so flat that sheets do not tip but lie stacked. The load is carried by four lifting loops on two circumferential straps, which spread the force over the whole length. All 4 sheet bags are coated, carry the asbestos warning print and, according to the data sheet, have a load capacity of 1,500 kg at safety factor 5:1.

The four sheet bags compared

From the external dimensions the table calculates the nominal volume, and from the packing unit the number of pieces for printing from 5 pallets. The nominal volume is the product of the external dimensions. How much actually fits depends on construction and material.

Two rules of thumb help with the choice. First, the length: choose a bag slightly longer than the longest component so that nothing overhangs at the ends. Second, the height: with 45 cm more sheets fit in a bag; with 30 cm the stack stays flatter and easier to load. The load capacity of 1,500 kg applies to all four sizes. It is a maximum load, not a filling target: an acceptance point may permit less; one example is Stade with a maximum of 750 kg per big bag.

Attaching, lifting, storing

• Always attach to all four lifting loops at the same time; on sheet bags, to the circumferential straps.
• Lift evenly and without jerking; do not stand under a suspended load.
• Do not drag across the ground and do not pierce the bag with a fork.
• Do not drop sheets in from a height when loading: edges load the fabric at points.
• Store dry and protected from UV light; polypropylene fabric ages in sunlight.

Regulations and acceptance

For stackable asbestos cement products, TRGS 519 no. 18.1 (2) names, besides big bags, sheet big bags, stacked on pallets in dust-tight packaging. Acceptance points may set their own requirements: for its sheet sacks, the Schweinfurt district gives, for example, 3.20 × 1.25 × 0.30 m and 2.60 × 1.25 × 0.30 m, which corresponds to the sizes of our items BBA320 and BBA260. That is a single case, not a benchmark: ask your waste disposal company before ordering which packaging is accepted.
