Packing asbestos cement sheets in BBA261
Asbestos cement sheets, for example facade panels and corrugated sheets, are asbestos waste under TRGS 519. For sheets and other stackable asbestos cement products, no. 18.1 (2) names big bags and sheet big bags, stacked on pallets in dust-tight packaging. BBA261 is a sheet bag with asbestos warning print: 260 cm long, 125 cm wide and 45 cm high, coated, with a load capacity of 1,500 kg.
With a height of 45 cm, BBA261 has room for a taller stack than BBA260 (260 × 125 × 30 cm). The weight of the parts adds up: it must not exceed 1,500 kg, and your acceptance point may require a lower maximum weight per bag. If 260 cm of external length is not enough, take BBA321 (320 × 125 × 45 cm), which has the same height.

Load-bearing capacity of BBA261
BBA261 holds 1.46 m³ by calculation and carries 1,500 kg at safety factor 5:1. This gives a mean density of 1,026 kg/m³ at full utilisation of volume and load capacity: material that is heavier does not fill the bag to the brim, and lighter material does not reach the load capacity. For sheets and profiles the weight of the parts counts, not a bulk density. Add up the weight of the parts and compare it with 1,500 kg before you fill BBA261.
Quantity planning with BBA261
How many BBA261 do you need for a given quantity of material? The table uses the nominal volume of 1.46 m³ and 280 pieces per pallet. With sand (1.50 t/m³), the load capacity of 1,500 kg limits the fill quantity per bag to 1.00 m³.

Handling of BBA261
- On BBA261 the four lifting loops lie on two circumferential straps. Attach all four at the same time; the straps spread the load over the length of 260 cm.
- BBA261 is coated. According to the data sheet the fabric protects against the ingress of moisture and is suitable for rain and outdoor storage. UV light still weakens it.
- When filled, BBA261 weighs up to 1,500 kg. Lifting equipment, lifting accessories and ground must be rated for this.
- BBA261 carries the asbestos warning print in seven languages. Leave it visible and clarify type of packaging and maximum weight with your acceptance point in advance.
- The standard reference TRGS 519 in the data sheet of BBA261 is not an approval; the acceptance is clarified by your waste disposal company, see Asbestos and mineral wool.
- A pallet holds 280 pieces of BBA261 (7 bundles of 40 pieces). Store unused bags in their original packaging.
